  • This Week... Finance Minister Steven Joyce says Govt spending on infrastructure will rise from $1bn-$1.5bn a year to $7bn this year. He says this level will need to be sustained for a decade to make up for the infrastructure deficit.
  • The trucking industry has launched a campaign to find 1,000 more drivers. The campaign’s focus is on finding ways to make it easier to become a truck driver as the driver workforce ages and the shortage restricts economic growth.
  • A two-bridge bypass of the Awakino tunnel has been selected as part of a multimillion roading project to improve safety along a notorious stretch of SH3 in north Taranaki.
  • And Civil Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee has announced additional funding to repair quake-damaged Kaikoura Harbour with the aim of getting the harbour fully operational by October when the summer tourism season starts.
